Descrizione

The Sanskrit word 'Tantra' derives from the verbal root tan, meaning 'to weaves', or 'compose', and refers to a type of instructional text, often written as a dialogue between Lord Shiva and goddess Parvati. This book deals with the Tantric-shat-Karma, via., Shanti, Vashi Karana, Stambhana, Vidveshan, Uchchatana, and Marana. This book has been collected from the archives of Kamakhaya Anusandhan Sansthan where it was kept in safe custody for centuries and it was our endeavor to translate it into English for our esteemed readers. Many texts contained rituals that transgressed existing social and religious boundaries–for example, sexual rites and engagement with the taboo, such as intoxicants and human remains. Tantra challenged distinctions between opposites by teaching that everything is sacred, including the traditionally profane and impure. The development of Tantra in medieval India coincided with the rise of many new kingdoms across the subcontinent after the breakdown of two major dynasties, the Guptas in the north and the Vakatakas in the southwest. Although this led to political precariousness, there was also a great flourishing of the arts. Many rulers were drawn to Tantra's promise of power and public temples often incorporated Tantric deities as guardians. The original book is written in ancient Assamese laguage on oblong strips of sanchi bark. It is believed to be not less than 300 years old. It is probably a translation into Assamese of an older Sanskrit work of the same title. Efforts were made to obtain the original and we got success. Evidently the book was kept in great secrecy and from the contents it appears that there is much justification for keeping it so. The Tantras are religious books of Shakti Cult teaching magical and mystical formularies for the worship of the deties. The Tantras, according to the Arthur Avalon, a great authority on Tantras, fall into tree recognised groups-Bishnu Kranta, Tatha Kranta and Aswa Kranta. This book Kamratna Tantra is included in the Aswa Kranta group. A man or a book should be judged by the standard of their own time and not by the standard of modern times. In this book there are many things which may be considerd indecent, if judged by the standards of today. It does not follow that these were so considered at the time they were written. The Yantra be practiced and used for the help, good cause and service of mankind. These should not be used for any nefarious means; the responsibility of such actions will be only that of the practitioner. About Authors: Padamshree Dr. M.H.K.SHASTRI ASST.
