Isabel takes center stage and maintains that stance straight thru. The tale is one of love, of control, of the end of time and the beginning of time. Mixing great romance with apocalyptic events makes for a real page turner. D.L. Orton has spun a story that defies imagination while at the same time seeming to jump from today’s headlines. She combines mystery with exciting and imaginative people and events that generate the love story that crosses time and place. All the while she includes the motif of a sock and seashell to help deliver the vital message. I found this book highly readable and plan to revisit it in the near future. It is a gripping story with clever wit displayed in one-liners and puns. While the mood is often somber and dealing with life and death of individuals and perhaps mankind, the sprinkling of the witticisms breaks the tension. There are good guys and bad, along with pragmatic types who insist on following the rules. The book is well conceived and executed. Orton has displayed creativity grounded in what-if reality. It is one I would recommend to my reading buddies without hesitation.
