Updating Values. Perspectives on Design Educationincludes the proceedings of the International SymposiumUpdating Values – FutureDesignEd 2020 held inSan Marino on January 16-17, 2020.
FutureDesignEd is an academic research projectpromoted by the University of Bologna DesignProgrammes, the aim of which is to observe theongoing transformation of design education throughthe involvement of a community of internationalobservers. The volume aims to further the discourseon “educational values” in the field of design.From Piero Formica’s “creative ignorance” to AliceTwemlow’s reflection upon the “human, post-human,and more-than-human”, from Audrey G. Bennett’seducational model to Juan Salamanca’s frameworkof responsible innovation, a plurality of differentviewpoints emerges.
All of them converged in the Manifesto of UpdatingValues – FutureDesignEd 2020, which identifies twelvevalues we believe are the core of design and designeducation, the cornerstones of a lifelong process oflearning and personal and professional growth: aware ofthe past, open to the future, and engaged with the world.
