THIS IS THE STORY: In a ruined cyberpunk city, ruled by the evil conglomerates, oilers and sheiks: Kayla, an ex-tattoo artist trying to cement her legend in the gladiator-like Games of New Eden, entertaining rich and poor alike, and an underground street racer named Jack are facing their worst demons when their worlds get turned upside-down. With powerful people out to kill them, Kayla and Jack must find the heart of the city, or die trying, or just die. I love that I get to share this story with you. Of course, it isn't finished. This is only Book One. This story means a lot to me, as nearly every character, the good and the bad, represents someone from my family, my father, mother, uncles, aunts. Everyone except for Rose. Rose is the queen of my heart, I think. I set out to write this book in 2021. I told myself to write a short and simple novel. And I wanted to write it fast, within one week if possible. Many thousands and thousands of words a day. Fast-paced and deadly. Well now it's 2024 and I barely put the last words to the story two or so months ago (at any rate, the first half of the story, which is the first 3 books). So much for a one-week write. But I'm glad for what it's become. I lost the thread of the story time and time again and had to redraft it and redraft it. And a curious thing happened on my final draft: the story began to carry me. That's when I knew I'd found it. It was easy to begin each day. I didn't have to think — I only had to focus on finding the right words. The story was writing me. I was only finding it. Exploring it. And everyday I wrote it was a joy. In that vein and skein and sentiment and sentimint (a sentient mint, I think), May you also enjoy.
