Compositore russo.L'incontro con rimskij-korsakov e la fase «russo-impressionista». Nacque in una ridente località nei pressi di Pietroburgo, figlio di un rinomato cantante, feˆodor ignatievic (1843-1902), primo basso al teatro Marijinskij. Pur avendo cominciato lo studio del pianoforte a nove anni, S. non fu un enfant prodige. I suoi studi regolari di musica cominciarono anzi molto tardi, quando, già avviato all'università per conseguire la laurea in legge, incontrò N. Rimskij-Korsakov, che accettò di prenderlo, a ventitré anni, tra i suoi allievi di composizione. Il tirocinio di studi con Rimskij-Korsakov durò sino alla morte del maestro (1908) ed ebbe come risultato, oltre alla Sinfonia in mi bemolle (1905-07), una suite di melodie d'impronta popolare per voce e orchestra, Il fauno e la...

Robert Craft

1923, Kingston, New York

Direttore d'orchestra statunitense e saggista. Fu allievo di P. Monteux e di I. Stravinskij, di cui fu dal 1948 assistente e amico e diresse quasi tutte le ultime opere. Di Stravinskij pubblicò anche 4 volumi di conversazioni, l'epistolario e varie raccolte di documenti (oltre a numerosi saggi sulla sua musica). Come direttore si dedicò prevalentemente alla diffusione della musica del primo '900, in concerti e in dischi, fra gli altri di Schönberg, Berg e Webern.
