Normal people but make it a boring american netflix romcom adaptation.
Why do people like this book? Genuinely asking. This book brought me on an emotional rollercoaster: i was bored, then annoyed then i hated it then bored again then annoyed again. People we meet on vacation was a huge disappointment. I read and LOVED Beach Read earlier this year so as soon as I heard there was a new Emily Henry book coming I knew I HAD to read it. Sadly, this book doesn’t stand a chance against the author’s debut novel. This book’s number 1 problem was its predictability: I could tell how it was going to end by page 20. The main characters literally have 0 chemistry, I had no clue why they liked each other. The story itself was very boring, I was bored out of my mind throughout the whole book. Nothing interesting happens. Nothing that keeps you on the edge of your seat. What happened in Croatia? It was pretty obvious but not that I cared. The last fight they had literally made NO SENSE. Also, the main characters are so goddamn BORING. Alex’s character is so flat, there’s not a single interesting thing about him and his back story only seems to be… there, it feels so unnatural. Poppy? Boring and annoying, a dangerous mix. I can’t stand any of them. The writing can be childish at times with too many details we don’t really care about, ex. the food they eat on vacation? all of those activities they went on while on vacation… who cares? Also, the writing wasn’t as poetic as it aspired to be (unlike in Beach Read). I liked Beach Read because it wasn’t just a “light hearted romance”, it also explored deeper themes such as grief in a very thoughtful way but this book? I swear it tried to be a bit deeper but FAILED miserably. Maybe I went into this book with a bit too high expectations since I had only heard good stuff about it and I loved the author’s previous novel but this isn’t it. I’m so sorry, I wanted to like it so bad. Just very disappointed. P.S. if anyone ever made a “sad puppy face” at me i would slap the shit out of them
