[Disclaimer: Ho ricevuto il libro grazie al programma Early Reviewer di LibraryThing] Come forse sapete, Writers of the Future è un concorso sotto il nome di Ron Hubbard (che prima di fondare Scientology era uno scrittore di fantascienza...) per i migliori racconti SF e fantasy che ormai ha quasi quarant'anni di storia. Come sempre, trovo i racconti di livello molto diverso: ecco due righe per quelli che ho trovato migliori. Non giudico gli illustratori (che hanno vinto anch'essi un concorso) ◆ Moonlight and Funk, di Marianne Connolly - racconto carino e poetico su un tipo di amore non proprio standard. 5/5 ◆ Death and the Taxman, di David Hankins - nella parte centrale l'autore vuole essere divertente a tutti i costi e non ci riesce; ma in generale è un buon racconto. 4/5 ◆ Circulate, di Ron Hubbard - Un suggerimento (buono, tra l'altro) di Hubbard per quando si ha il blocco dello scrittore. 4/5 ◆ The Unwilling Hero, di Ron Hubbard - Leggendolo, a un certo punto si capisce cosa sarebbe diventato Hubbard. 4/5 ◆ White Elephant, di David K. Henrickson - Umoristico, ben costruito, e con un finale inaspettato. 5/5 ◆ Piracy for Beginners, di Jennifer Johnson - Una buona vecchia space opera. 4/5 ◆ A Trickle in History, di Elaine Cohen - come far sì che gli ultimi ebrei non siano gli ultimi, quando ammazzare Hitler sembra essere vietato dalle leggi temporali. Idea e realizzazione carine. 5/5 ◆ The Children of Desolation, di Spencer Sekulin - racconto postapocalittico, parte lento ma si riprende bene. 4/5 ◆ Timelines and Bloodlines, di Laurance Davis - buon modo, anche un po' umoristico, per gestire i paradossi temporali. 5/5 ◆ The Last History, di Samuel Parr - In genere non amo il fantasy, ma questo mondo che ricorda un po' l'impero cinese è raffigurato molto bene. 4/5
